Keeping Up with the Pace

I was sitting at a city bus stop, in the hustle and bustle of rush hour, when a friend who I hadn’t seen for a long time, passed by. I really wanted to catch up and talk about the good old days – the days when life was a lot simpler and slower. He told me he was in a hurry and couldn’t stop to talk, so I offered to walk with him. He set a cracking pace and had a go at me because I was ambling along so slowly. He kept talking about how fit he was because he was working out at a gym everyday. Metaphorically speaking , my nose got put out of joint when he told me that I needed to “keep up with the pace.”

We got to his destination, which was the Railway Station, and the next thing I knew was, that he walked head first into a glass door.

I’ve been telling this story for fifteen years and have done it to death. Never the less, it always gets a laugh.
